Local.com Acquires Location Based KrilliionYet another large brand has made a move into the Group Buying/Daily Deals game, Local.com acquires location-based shopping data aggregator Krillion.

The deal, reportedly worth around 3.5 million in cash, seems like a rather small sum compared to recent acquisitions & investments by others like Facebook, Yahoo, New York Times & Google.

Krillion offers local shopping information on more than 70K consumer based products from more than 50K retailers.  The info they offer includes in-store availability, current discounts, comparison prices and images.

What does this have to do with Daily Deals?

Local.com - Spreebird for Daily/Local DealsReports back in January claimed that Local.com was set to acquire iTwango, an early stage (at the time) group-buying platform that would allow advertisers to extend discounted offers to consumers based on their Geo-Location.  With that acquisition, Local.com said it would re-brand iTwango (now Spreebird) and distribute the deals and offers through its network of locally based sites.

The newly re-branded Spreebird.com, aggregates deals from different providers across the country allowing users to find/buy those deals that are most useful.

The collaborative capabilities and technologies of Krillion, Local.com and iTwango (spreebird) will allow Local.com to provid it’s users what should be a quality product.  Spreebird expects to launch apps for iPhones & Android during the 3rd Quarter of 2011.
