google voice search on your computerThis is AWESOME! I have been using Google’s Voice Search feature for some time now on my mobile device with both Google Maps and the regular Google Search and it is sweet. It makes searching a breeze and makes getting directions while driving much easier.

Google has now brought Voice Search to the desktop. And it’s gonna change the way your search.

This new search feature is the 2nd of a set of 3 roll-outs by Google at their recent Inside Search Event. Instant Pages & Image Search are the other two.

This feature is pretty easy to explain. You can now speak your web searches instead of typing them. It is enabled by clicking the small microphone that will show in your regular Google Search Bar.  You will need Google Chrome to be running as your browser and as of 6/17 there is a note on the Voice Search page from Google stating “it will take several days for Voice Search to be available to everyone”.

Google highlights use cases for Voice Search:

Hard-to-spell Searches:
Makes searching words you’re not sure how to spell quicker and easier.

Longer Searches:
Search long queries, even really, really long queries, just by talking.

Searches that are just more fun to search out loud:
Now you can literally ‘ask’ your computer anything.

Searching without typing:
Usie it in the kitchen, in the garage or anytime your hands might be full.
